Artists' Television Access announces
6th Annual Film & Video Festival program

SAN FRANCISCO, CA -- The 6th Annual Artists’ Television Access Film & Video Festival celebrates original, independent and underground film & video with screenings, a filmmaker reception, a media installation and a hands-on workshop, October 19-23.

On Wednesday, October 19, ATA will kick off the festival with a reception, open to the public. Stop by and meet the filmmakers, check out the installation and enjoy light refreshments.

On Thursday, October 20, ATA will screen the first of two shorts programs. Titled "City Symphonies," the program explores the physical and emotional landscapes of our world. The screening includes films and videos by Tommy Becker, David Baumflek, Rachel Manera, Stephanie Barber, Alexandra Cuesta, Lori Felker & Robert Todd, Nadia Rais, Friedl Vom Gröller and Paul Clipson.

On Friday, October 21, the second festival shorts program, “Sling-shots," explores the archetypal Davids and Goliaths in our experiences. This program includes films and videos by Bryan Boyce, Chris Matule, Andrew Wilson, Clint Enns, Shalo P, Tim Gallaher, Hazel Gore, Peter Freund, Karl Lind, Dayv Jones and Douglas Katelus.

Before each screening and during intermission, guitarist and filmmaker, Marlon Gonzales will play a country blues set.

During the month of October, Sam Manera’s media installation, “The Insecurity Booth” will be on exhibit in the ATA installation window. By incorporating multiple video monitors and cameras, “The Insecurity Booth” offers the viewer a barrage of images both collected and in real time from cameras positioned around ATA. Come by and contemplate the power of “The Insecurity Booth.”

This year, ATA is offering a hands-on Super8 Film Workshop. Local filmmaker and musician, John Davis will take participants through a brief history of Super8 film, basic camera operation & shooting tips. Then each participant will shoot and project their own film. There will be two class meetings, October 23rd & November 12th. To sign up for the workshop go to www.festival.atasite.org. TO SCREEN AT THE ROXIE THEATER

SAN FRANCISCO, CA -- Artists’ Television Access celebrates the first five years of the ATA Annual Film & Video Festival with a retrospective screening at the Roxie, Playback: 2006-2010, April 19th, 2011.

The program includes works by Tommy Becker, Ariel Diaz, Paul Clipson, Zachary Epcar, Sam Barnett, Jibz Cameron & Hedia Maron, John Palmer, Rachel Manera, Carl Diehl, Martha Colburn, Guy Maddin, Clare Samuel & Candice Purwin, Olga Chernysheva, and Federico Campanale.

Festival directors Isabel Fondevila and Shae Green proudly present a selection of local & international works, celebrating unconventional films and a singular film festival that entertains and provokes audiences worldwide. SELECTED SHORTS FROM 2009 ATA FESTIVAL
TO SCREEN IN HONG KONG

A program of short works from the 4th Annual ATA Film & Video Festival is going to be part of the 14th edition of the Microwave International Media Arts Festival in Hong Kong. The screening will take place at the Lecture Hall of the Hong Kong Space Museum on December 12, 2010.

As the first and only art festival in Hong Kong dedicated to new media art, Microwave has steadily grown into a well-established festival that brings cutting-edge works to provoke thought in the technological hub that Hong Kong is every year.

With the theme SCREENARCADIA, Microwave International New Media Arts Festival 2010 is breaking the screen borders with a series of exhibitions, workshops, screenings and conference, and the very special world-touring street performance – “as if it were the last time”. Inviting audience to step into the screen world, open up its infinite possibilities.

SAN FRANCISCO, CA -- The 5th Annual Artists’ Television Access Film & Video Festival celebrates original, independent and underground film & video with screenings, installations and workshops, October 19th - 23rd.

Thursday, October 21, ATA will screen the first of two shorts programs. Titled "Human Nature," the program explores the relationship between our natural environment and consciousness. The screening includes films and videos by Paul Clipson, Sam Barnett, Bill Brown, Patricia McInroy, Gina Carducci & Mattilda Bernstein Sycamore, Vera Brunner-Sung, Karl Lind, John Palmer, and Maite Abella. The shorts will be followed by the ceremonial smashing of a piñata.

On Friday, October 22, the second festival shorts program,“Lo-Fi Future," explores futuristic landscapes and lo-fi culture. This program includes films and videos by Kathleen Quillian, Whitney Horn & Lev Kalman, Sylvia Schedelbauer, Jeff Guay, Zachary Epcar, Bryan Boyce, Jesse McLean, and Kerry Laitala. Chromadepth 3D glasses and chromatic jello shots will be provided.

Two hands-on workshops will be offered this year. Local filmmakers Kerry Laitala and Craig Baldwin will offer workshops on Tuesday, October 19 and Saturday the 23rd, respectively. Kerry’s workshop, Lightstruck, on hand processing 16mm film, will be held in SOMA, at the Rayko Photo Center, the festival’s Lab sponsor. The workshop will give participants the opportunity to create cinematic photograms by hand and see their creation as a festival trailer on screening nights.

On Saturday, October 23, Craig Baldwin will share his expertise in the use of archival 16mm film material through his “Flix Remix” show-and-tell session. The workshop will include technical instruction and must-see exemplary material. To sign up for these workshops go to http://festival.atasite.org.

Local artists will be providing two installations, which will be presented in ATA's gallery. Sam Manera will exhibit “THE BOX, aka, The Multiplicity of Perception”, an interactive multimedia installation. And Shalo P will present "Liquid Light," a piece that surveys the digital apocalypse and embellishes it with rainbows.

Also, during the month of October, the ATA Window will project a selection of experimental shorts, visually stunning pieces and innovative animations. These projections, visible from dusk until midnight on Valencia, near 21st Street, include work by Patrick Bergeron, Charles Fairbanks, Cecilie Bjørgås Jordheim, Zachary Iannazzi, Nightmare City, Ben Popp & Kenny Reed, Nancy Jean Tucker, and Maarit Suomi-Väänänen.
