Sheets

Shalo P - 2010/11, 8:22, DV, San Francisco

"i was once somewhere when a video came on. i saw hands grip the covers of a bed and lift them. a pair of legs appeared in the darkness. the legs kicked up, the sheets moved like a wave and the camera was blinded with light. i have never forgotten what i felt at that moment. 'sheets' is comprised of thin layers - so many that even i couldn't say. the darkness again leads to the various incarnations of that light, what waits in between is up to you to see. my hands are gripping the covers. watch close."

Shalo P is a San Francisco audio / visual artist interested in raw emotion whose work spans media as diverse as drawing, video, installation, sound performance, comix and the curatorial practice. Generally taking the form of vibrantly rousing celebrations of the moment, his videos play elaborate games with repetition, the subtle synthesis of various stimuli and a deeply methodic approach toward the structure of video as both an extension of cinema and other visual languages, offering up densely crafted suites of sound and light nested within a conceptual framework riddled with personal motifs.
