False Friends

Sylvia Schedelbauer – 2007, 4:45 min, 16mm/MiniDV, San Francisco, CA

A montage of mid-century found footage: mysterious strands are obsessively braided to create a poetic reflection about an anxious interplay of memory and projection.

Sylvia Schedelbauer is a half German-Japanese filmmaker who graduated from the University of Arts in Berlin. In her work she often deals with identities oscillating between different states of belonging. Her short films have screened at numerous festivals in Europe, and she is currently in San Francisco on a research and production grant from the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD).

Artists' Television Access is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, all-volunteer, artist-run, experimental media arts gallery that has been in operation since 1984. ATA hosts a series of film and video screenings, exhibitions and performances by emerging and established artists and a weekly cable access television program.
