Piensa En Mi

Alexandra Cuesta - 2009, 15:00, 16mm, Los Angeles

Moving from east to west and back, the windows of a bus frame fleeting sections of urban landscape. Throughout the day, images of riders, textures of light and fragments of bodies in space come together to weave a portrait in motion; a contemplative journey of public transport in the city of Los Angeles. Isolation, routine and everyday splendor, create the backdrop of this journey, while the intermittent sounds of cars construct the soundscape. Daily travel is captured in the details.

Alexandra Cuesta (b.1980) is a filmmaker and photographer who lives and works between Los Angeles, California and Quito, Ecuador. Her work combines ethnography, experimental traditions and visual poetry, along with ideas she continually revisits about the construction of place, structures of time and documenting the invisible, discerning the in-between within the outsider and the familiar. Her images often engage with the public sphere and comment on the conception of identity and cultural diaspora. Her Films have been widely screened, nationally and internationally, at venues such as Viennale Intl’ Film Festival, New York Film Festival, Anthology Film Archives, Queens Museum of Art, Centre Pompidou, among others. She received an MFA in Film and Video from CalArts. Currently, she is in Ecuador working on her newest film.
